Metro District Ritual Travels

Metro District Ritual
Royal Oak Lodge #1523
February 19-21, 2010

Once again we were headed to the eastside of the State for the Metro District’s Ritual competition. This trip was very much like our trip two weeks earlier. We had the sad duty of attending a funeral service for a very close and dear friend, Joann Botting. Joann was the special lady friend of PSP Al. W. Festa for the past fifteen years. She had that special magic to make everyone feel wanted and loved. Our hearts go out to Al, the family, and all of those who knew her.

The fun part of the trip started on Friday as we spent the evening at the Royal Oak Lodge. We enjoyed their wonderful fish fry and those individual beverages of choice. We were able to meet with many old friends all while making new ones. We thank the Royal Oak Lodge for being such gracious hosts and for the use of their wonderful facilities and also the Metro District for the hospitality that was extended to us making the weekend enjoyable despite the sad start.

On Saturday we witnessed some strong Ritual competition between the Lodges in the District. As we watched, we were once again assured that a very strong team would emerge and make this year’s State competition extremely exciting.

The Pontiac-Waterford Lodge walked away with top honors and made it known that their intentions are to compete in Orlando. They did this while ensuring everyone that this is no Mickey Mouse team, they are the real deal. They were led by four Major trophy winners; ER John Wigam, Loyal Knight Elaine Houston, Lecturing Knight Cathy Redmond, and Esquire Kim Deckard. Our congratulations to them and we wish them the best of luck in attaining their goals.

On Saturday evening we were treated to a wonderful banquet and live entertainment for our enjoyment. (And a birthday celebration for Joan Roos….Happy Birthday to you!)

At the conclusion of the banquet, the 11 O’clock Toast was given by the new District Champion, Sharon Malendowski. It was done beautifully, thus showing why she was the best of the best.

Sunday morning before heading for home we met with PSP Al. W. Festa, and he asks that you please accept his regrets that he was unable to attend as he is still trying to deal with the loss of special lady friend Joann Botting. Let’s all keep Al and Joann’s family in our thoughts and prayers.
