Scholarship and Gold Key

Scholarship Judging & Gold Key Meeting
Houghton-Higgins Lodge #1982
January 8-9

The weekend of January 8th & 9th took us to the Houghton/Higgins Lodge for the Annual meeting of the Gold Key Commissioners and our State’s Most Valuable Student Scholarship judging contest.

On Friday evening, we had dinner at the Lodge with many of the other judges. We were greeted by Exalted Ruler, George Freel and welcomed by many other old friends. Later that evening, we opened a make-shift hospitality room and were able to visit with friends while participating in a few games of chance. Having introduced so many to this new game of cards…I felt somewhat guilty in winning the first game (NOT). A good time was had by all.

Saturday morning the Gold Key Commissioners; along with PSP G. Fred Dill and I judged the financial section of the MVS scholarship form. Our State Chairman, Brad Saegesser and his committee completed the rest of the judging. It was a pleasure to watch Brad show his expertise in handling this huge undertaking. Because of his efforts and all of you; we were able to help many high school seniors continue their education.

We all enjoyed dinner together that evening and then visited the hospitality room once again for another fun filled evening.

Sharon and several other ladies enjoyed a day of shopping. I know I can’t speak for the others, but my wife assured me that she saved me a lot of money, because everything she bought was on sale. Lucky me!!

On Sunday morning we headed for home while others were off to their respective District Meetings.
