Bay Cliff Visit
July 24-25

 Members all,

As the month of July came to a close, we made a visit with many other Elks to Bay Cliff to see first hand the works of our State Major Projects. It was a wonderful and humbling experience for all. If your State President had the drive, determination, and extra efforts that are displayed by these beautiful and amazing kids, he too would be considered one of the best.

Although the weekend was all about these special kids, the Elks Lodges in the area provide us with great food and entertainment throughout the weekend.

On Thursday evening, Sharon and I along with our host and hostess Gary and Linda Baracy, made an overnight stay in St. Igance. Fortunately or unfortunately it was dollar per bottle beer night. Needless to say we had another great time. We met many new friends and acquaintances and even signed a new member.

It was off to Marquette, for the Christmas in July party on Friday at the Lodge. Once again, we witnessed first hand the generosity of our members in supporting this wonderful cause for our special needs children.

The party at the Lodge didn’t start until six o’clock so a noon tailgate party was held in the parking lot at the Brentwood motel. The brats and dogs were prepared by Todd Dunn, ER of the Marquette Lodge and all the trimmings and side dishes furnished by those in attendance. As if the camaraderie of our members wouldn’t be enough, Irish music was provided by yours truly.

Saturday was off to Bay Cliff where several of the campers provided guided tours of the camp. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch with all of the campers (and my manners must have improved, no one pointed out my flaws this year). The program put on by several of the campers and staff was again very moving and there was not a dry eye in the house. A big thank you to everyone who made the day special. Then we were off to the Negaunee Lodge #1116 for their ever famous cudighis. We were greeted with open arms (at least most were) and the food and hospitality was great. We thank all the Offices and members for making this visit so special for all of us.

As if a good time wasn’t enough, it was off to Ishpeming Lodge #447 for liquid libations.  We were greeted by Exalted Ruler Kathy Stratton and a host of other officers and members. The Lodge wanted Sharon and I to feel comfortable so they provided us with Norte Dame drinking glasses which we really appreciated. Thanks.

When we arrived back at the motel evidently we didn’t solve all of the world’s problems so we continued to party and discuss Elkdom until early in the morning. (at which time the motel manager encouraged us to call it a night).

The drive home on Sunday seemed a little long (wonder why) but it was just a mere seven hours. All in all a good time was had by all and we thank our Executive Director Lynn Cook, wife Brenda and all of the Major Project Commissioners for all of their hard work and dedication to Michigan Major Projects.
