State Presidents Night

State President’s Night
Plymouth Lodge September 25, 2009

We started our journey to the Plymouth Elks Lodge on Friday, September 25, 2009 to help celebrate their 60th Anniversary and President’s Night. We met with 1st Vice President Tom Bianco & Emily and decided to dine at the Livonia Elks Lodge that evening. It was our first trip to this Lodge and we were very impressed with all aspects of the Lodge. We were treated like royalty; the food, drinks, and friendship are second to none.

Saturday morning with just a light mist we headed out for the Southeast Gold Key Golf Outing. Sharon and I partnered with our Aid to the President, Randy and Chris Jackson. I’m sure they were nervous about playing with the two of us after all the other things that have happen this year on the golf course. We actually played well and had a good time doing it. We were joined for several holes by Tom Bianco, a non-golfer, but he didn’t prove to be that way. Tom hit the ball very well for a first timer.

The outing was a make up for a previous date that was rained out and the attendance was great. The Committee and Gold Key Commissioner, Pat Morgan, did an outstanding job in making everyone feel welcome. The Executive Director of the Gold Key, Franz Brenner and John Truskowski prepared and served the food for us during the outing. Great job guys!

We then retired to our room for a few cocktails and war stories about the day’s events. The big story was about the surprise that was left for our group by Gold Key Commissioner, Dennis White. After completing his round he wanted to make sure we were warmed from the chill by leaving a bit of Brandy. It definitely warmed us and gave us something to toast our final birdie hole.

Then came the main reason for the trip on Saturday evening; joining the Plymouth Lodge in celebrating their 60th Anniversary. We were greeted by a warm welcoming committee at the Lodge and seeing so many familiar faces was a true pleasure.

We were seated as special guests with the Exalted Ruler and his lovely wife, Phil and Carole Brooks. It is clear to see how this Lodge has done so well for the past 60 years with the leadership skills displayed by these two beautiful people.

During the celebration, one of their Charter Members, Wilbert Clark was introduced. He joined the Plymouth Lodge the year I was born, and is still going strong. He has a great life and has been married for 65 years to his lovely wife, Corrine. Seated with them were some of their special friends and family; one couple that has been married for 68 years and a family member that will be celebrating 75 years of marriage this year. It must be something in the water that allows them to reach these milestones.

Sixty years of Elkdom was surely an occasion for reflection. It was a time to be proud of their past, a time to embrace the future, and yes, a time to celebrate. Celebrate we did.

Once again, “CONGRATULATIONS” to Plymouth Lodge. I am confident of your continued growth and success and pray that our Lord will bless you and your families with good health, happiness, and prosperity for years to come.

 Southeast District Soccer Shoot
Farmington Lodge September 26, 2009

Just when you think we’re done………..we’re not. Sunday morning we were off to Farmington Lodge for the Southeast District Soccer Shoot. The participants were enthusiastic and treated to a special day by the committee.

Our hats go off to State Chairman, Mike Hall, District Chairman, Bert Knickerbocker and Dave Fisher for organizing the shoot and to the entire committee for making it such a great day for everyone. Both parents and children were treated to hotdogs, chips, and soda after the well organized event.

It was a pleasure to watch the excitement portrayed by the young athletes as they competed for the right to go on to the State Soccer Shoot. Everyone received an award or certificate for their participation. While the first place winners await the State competition; the rest are back to the practice field for next year’s event.
